ASEF - The Asia-Europe Foundation

Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation - Formally independent foundation although funded by the government of the Republic of China. Allocates funding primarily to large-scale China related teaching and research projects in foreign universities, but offers scholarships also to independent researchers.

The Japan Foundation - scholarships and funding for research on Japan

Korea Foundation - scholarships and funding for the research of Korea

American Center for Mongolian Studies

APCSS - Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, Honolulu, Hawaii

Center for Chinese Studies, Taiwan - A research center funded by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China. Scholarships and grants also to independent researchers. Focus on the researching of classical China.

Center for Korean Studies - research institute maintained by the University of Hawaii

Chinese Academy of Social Sciences - leading Chinese institute of social sciences

Chung Hua Institution for Economic Research - regognized economic research institute close to the ROC government, founded in 1981

CSEAS, Center for Southeast Asian Studies - research institute of Souhteast Asia in the University of Kyoto

European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) - EU-supported think-tank aiming at developing the relations between Asia and Europe

European Institute of Japanese Studies (EIJS) - An institute at the Stockholm School of Economics. One of the few institutes in Europe dedicated to the reseach of Japanese economy.

German Institute for Japanese Studies

Institute of International Relations , National Chengchi University, Taiwan - Formally independent policy studies- institute although close to the government of the Republic of China. Focus on Taiwan related research.

ISEAS - Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore

National Bureau of Asian Research - independent American institute concentrated on Asia research, focus on security policy

National Policy Foundation - Taiwanese research institute close to the conservatives

National University of Singapore

• East Asian Institute (EAI) - academic and policy-oriented research on contemporary China and East Asian economies.
• Centre on Asia and Globalisation - research institute focuses on global governance and energy policy.
• Asia Research Institute (ARI) - research on social sciences, with special focus on e.g. migration, changin families, religion and globalisation and cities in Asia.

Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), Singapore - research center has close ties with Nanyang Technological University and is supported by the government of Singapore and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung of Germany.

Nordic Center at Fudan University - joint project between fudan University and 17 universities from four Nordic countries. Arranges courses for students from Nordic countries and offers services to researchers.

Taiwan Institute for Economic Research - private research institute founded in 1976 by Taiwanese business life

Taiwan Security Research - independent news collection maintained by National Taiwan University, focus on security policy

ASEM Education Hub - education and research network that promotes connections between Asia and Europe, founded after ASEM3

Asia-Alliance, The European Alliance for Asian Studies - a co-operative framework of European institutes specializing in Asian Studies established in 1997.

Transgender ASIA - Transgender study network, University of Hong Kong
