ASIANET MATERIAL BANK
A free database of pictures, maps and videoclips for educational use!
How can I use the materials in the Material Bank?
The Material Bank is run by the University Network for Asian Studies.
Its materials can be used free of charge for non-profit educational and
research use. However, users should give due academic credit to
the copyright holder of the materials they find in the Bank.
Any material in the Bank may not be used for commercial purposes without
the permission of the copyright holder. Please contact the Network
University Teacher for more information.
Material Bank pictures are stored in the Picasa web album. You can access the bank at this address:
http://picasaweb.google.com/asianetmaterialbank
How can I submit my own photos to the Material Bank?
Do you have great photos or videos from Asia and you want to share them with others? Please send them to the Asianet Material Bank at Picasa. You can submit your own photos or videos to the Material Bank easily. Always make sure that you submit your own photos or videos whose copyright you own.
Send your pictures as attachments in separate e-mails to this address:
asianetmaterialbank.photos(at)picasaweb.com
Please notice that you have to send each document in its own e-mail. So only one photo/video per e-mail. Write the name/description of your photo and your own name in the subject field of the message. Don't write anything in the message field.
For example: Email Subject Field: rice fields in China, John Doe 2011
Please try to be as accurate as possible with the description. Network staff will not rename your photos afterwards. Only if you have several similar pictures which can go under the same description, eg. street views from Shanghai, you can send them in the same e-mail. These photos will be all named with the same description. Remember to write your own name in the description too.
Once you have sent your photos to the Asianet Material Bank, they will be checked and approved by the University Network staff. After that they will appear in the Asianet Material Bank at Picasa.
The pictures are published under the Creative Commons Licence (“attribution, non-commercial”). This means that whoever wants to use the Asianet Material Bank materials must attribute the work in the manner specified by the copyright holder (but not in any way that suggests that the copyright holder endorses the user or user’s use of the work). The materials may not be used for commercial purposes. The user is free to share (to copy, distribute and transmit) the work and to remix (to adapt) the work. By submitting photos to the Asianet Material Bank, you accept these conditions.
If you have any problems or questions about the procedure, please contact the Network Substitute University Teacher Samu Kolehmainen (samkol(at)utu.fi).
