APPLY FOR ASIAN STUDIES PROGRAMME 2011

 

The application for the Asian Programme has ended. If you have any questions concerning the Asian Programme, please contact planning officer Silja Keva (silja.keva@utu.fi).

Applicant will recieve information about the student selection in the beginning of December.

 

Application period 18.10. - 14.11.2010

The Asian Programme (25-31 cr/ECTS) is an interdisciplinary study programme, which offers students basic knowledge of East and Southeast Asia. The programme also includes a course on India (“India in the World Politics”). The Asian Programme is organised by the Finnish University Network for Asian Studies.

The programme consists of online courses with lectures and exercises. Courses are organised in the Moodle learning environment on the Internet.

The programme can be taken as a minor subject or in smaller course entities. In order to get a degree for a minor subject, the student must finish four complete modules AND at least 25 credits. The languages of instruction are Finnish and English.

 

The following modules are offered:

A: Cultural History of East and Southeast Asia, spring 2011
(in Finnish and English, options: 6 cr or 2r)

B: Society and Politics in East and Southeast Asia, spring 2011
(in English, options: 6 cr or 2 cr)

C: Business in East and Southeast Asia, autumn 2011
(in English, options: 7 cr, 5 cr, or 2 cr)

D: Language and Communication in East and Southeast Asia, autumn 2011
(in English, options: 6 cr)

E: India in the World Politics, autumn 2011
(in English, options: 6 cr)

The programme is recommended for students who have completed their first year.

Who can apply?

A) University students who are studying in one of the Network member universities

The students of the University Network member universities can study free in the Asian Programme.

The member universities are:

Aalto University, Lappeenranta University of Technology, University of Jyväskylä, University of Oulu, University of Tampere, University of Turku, University of Vaasa.

University of Eastern Finland has not yet made the final decision about participation. Students from this university are encouraged to apply to the programme. If the university decides not to participate, the students do not have the right to study for free, but they can later enroll as self-paying students if they want. We hope that the decisions are made as soon as possible.

B) Polytechnic students:

All polytechnic students can participate in the Programme if their polytechnic agrees to pay the study fee. Students need to submit a signed confirmation letter on acceptance (puoltokirje) from their own unit in which the unit endorses the student's study fee in the Asian Programme.

    C) Students from non-member universities and non-degree students

    Students who have a right to study in a Finnish non-member university can apply to study in Asian Programme as self-paying students.

    Finnish citizens and permanent residents can also apply to study in Asian Programme as self-paying students.

Self-paying students can study 4 whole modules (max 26 credits) by paying 250 euro.

If you want to study an additional module, the fee is 50 euro per credit.

Notice that the requirements for the minor in Asian Programme is 25 credits.
