Contents: The course combines the lenses of Sino-Indian relations and various theoretical approaches to security for viewing the contemporary structure of security issues in the Asian context. Security is understood here as encompassing a variety of topics including economic, trade, environmental, societal and military sectors. Target Group: The MA level courses are aimed for students who already have aquired some knowledge about Asia or on the specialty of the particular course. These courses are free for all students who hold a valid study right in one of the University Network's member universities. The study fee for students from Finnish non-member universities is 50 euro per credit. Taken as: The course consists of 15 hours of online lectures including the approaches to security (Juha Vuori), to geopolitical issues (Sanjay Chaturvedi), and to subject matters on the security on the Sino-Indian axis (Jing-Dong Yuan), supervised readings, lecture diary and essay. Virtual course in Moodle. Grading: on a scale of 1-5 Application for the course: Application period 12-23 November 2012. A maximum of 40 students will be accepted to the course in the order of application.
Credit transfers: The Centre for East Asian Studies at the University of Turku will apply a study right to University of Turku for the students on their behalf. After finishing the course the students will be sent a transcript of their records from Turku. The students need to take the transcript to their own university and make sure that the credits are transferred to their own university. This will not happen automatically. This does not concern the students from the university of Tampere and Turku, their credits will be registered by their respective institutions. Before coming to the course the students should check with their own home department that this course can be accepted as part of their degree in their own university. |
