Teacher: Dong Wang, CEAS / UTU Goals: This course will give a good overall picture of the development of the Sino - American relations. And give students good tools to evaluate the current affairs. Contents: This course surveys the chameleon-like relationship between the United States and China from late 18th century to the present, on both governmental and non-governmental levels, and in regional and international context. |

Lectures consists of four sections: 1) Trade, Guns, and Bibles, 1978 -1911 Target group: The students of the Network member universities are eligible to apply. The course is recommended for advanced level (MA) students. Taken as: Online lectures and readings. Lecture exam. Grading: on a scale of 1-5 Date & Venue: Virtual course in Moodle. Course will be organized in period 3, 2011. Literature: Schaller, Michael: The United States and China: Into the Twenty-fist Century. 3rd ed. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2002. Application: Application form for the course will be available later on this site. Specific dates for application will be announced later on this website. Credit transfers: Students are not required to apply for a study right at the university of Turku on their own, the Centre for East Asian Studies will do this on their behalf. At the end of the term the students will be sent a transcript of records from Turku. The students need to take the transcript to their own university and make sure that the credits are transferred from Turku to their own respective universities. This will not happen automatically! Before coming to the course the students should check with their own home department that this course can be accepted as part of their degree in their own university. |
