Goal: The main purpose of the course is to provide a thorough analysis of contemporary issues and current challenges that are restructuring South-East Asia as a region.

Content: The course touches upon current questions in Southeast Asia, concentrating on for example domestic and international politics, regional development (ASEAN), human rights issues, natural resources and environmental challenges, and economic development of the area. The lectures are held by visiting researchers from Finland and abroad.

Target Group: The students of the Network member universities are eligible to apply. The course is recommended for advanced level (MA) students.

Taken as: The course will consist of lectures (24 hours), articles, a learning diary and an essay. For 6 credits, the students will write a learning diary covering the lectures and articles, and an essay of 8-10 pages. For 10 credits, students will take additional book exams from the reading list provided in the beginning of the course.

Lectures will be available in the internet. The articles will also be available online. The course platform used is Moodle.

Grading: on a scale of 1-5

Before enrolling on the course the students should check with their own home department that this course can be accepted as part of their degree in their own university.
