Doctoral seminar at the Asian Studies Days 2025
The doctoral seminar provides an outstanding opportunity to meet other young researchers whose doctoral thesis focuses on contemporary Asia, and to receive feedback from senior researchers who have a profound knowledge of the region. The seminar is arranged in connection with the annual Asian Studies Days.
Asian Studies Days at the University of Turku
November 3, main event (hybrid)
November 4, doctoral seminar (onsite, no online participation)
The seminar is open to all doctoral researchers in Finnish Universities whose doctoral thesis develops new knowledge about contemporary Central, East, Southeast or South Asia (society, politics, contemporary history, economy, business, culture, law). Doctoral researchers are expected to participate either with a research plan, full research paper, or a chapter of the thesis. Suitable length of the paper is ca 6,000 words.
The Finnish University Network for Asian Studies will provide free accommodation for one night in a double room and a travel grant up to 40 euros for doctoral researchers who fulfill the following qualifications
– attends the events both on November 3 and 4
– whose paper is accepted to the seminar
– is registered as a doctoral researcher in one of the Network’s members universities (Jyväskylä, Tampere or Turku)
– does not live in Turku region
